Motspur Park is a suburban development with parts included in the Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames, and others falling into the territory of the London Borough of Merton. Locals often refer to Motspur Park as West Barnes. Naturally, the area is quite affluent – partly because it is in Kingston upon Thames, and partially because it lies relatively near to Central London, with which it shares very good transport connections. There is an abundance of open green spaces in Motspur Park, as well as many sports facilities. The major one is the former University of London Athletics ground, which has become a training stadium for Fulham F.C. in 1999. Located here are also King’s College sports grounds, The Old Blues rugby club playing field, The Tenison’s School playing field, The Joseph Hood Memorial playing field home of Motspur Park Football Club and several other minor sports grounds. Motspur Park is home of former Arsenal star and national team player, footballer Nigel Winterburn, who is currently a popular football television pundit.
