Five Amazing Lakes in Britain

The United Kingdom is home to numerous beautiful lakes that offer some of the greatest vistas on the planet. Down below are listed some Britain’s most wonderful and atmospheric lakes.

Buttermere – This lake is located in the English Lake District in the northwestern parts of England. Buttermere is situated in close proximity to an eponymous village which has a population of approximately 130 residents. The lake lies nearby the famed Cocker Valley and at a short distance from Scale Force, the highest waterfall within the English Lake District. Buttermere is often described by travelers and hikers as the most picturesque lake of the United Kingdom.

Loch Lomond – Loch Lomond is a freshwater basin that crosses the Highland Boundary Fault in Scotland. The loch is the largest inland stretch of water in Great Britain and is home to several islands including Inchmurrin, the largest fresh-water island of the British Isles. Loch Lomond is extremely popular amongst water sports and boating aficionados. The loch is also located in close proximity to the highly popular Scottish city of Glasgow.

Lake Vyrnwy – Lake Vyrnwy is a Victorian Reservoir which was construction from 1881 to 1888. The reservoir is located in Montgomeryshire in Powys, Whales. The lake lies at the heart of the Lake Vyrnwy Nature Reserve and Estate. The reservoir offers plenty of attractions to its visitor and its close location to the Rhiwargor Falls has made it an extremely popular destination amongst hikers that wish to witness waterfalls.

Dozmary-PoolDozmary Pool – This is perhaps the smallest lake on our list but it is an amazing one. The lake is situated in Cornwall in the South Westernmost parts of the United Kingdom. In 1951 Dozmary Pool was recognized as a Site of Special Scientific Interest. An interesting fact about the lake is that it is part of the legend of King Arthur. It is believe that the mythical kings received his sword Excalibur from this lake as it is the home of the Lady of the Lake.

Derwentwater – This lake is one of the main bodies of water in the Lake District National Park. Derwentwater is situated in North West England and is entirely located in the Borough of Allerdale in the county of Cumbria. The lake is home to a total of 13 islands of different sizes. It is believe that Derwentwater was the favorite lake of famed English writer Beatrix Potter. The lake is also the location of the world famous Theatre by the Lake.

As you can see the UK is indeed the location of some remarkable bodies of water. So as soon as your relocation via man and van services is over, visit these amazing natural sites with your family. However don’t assume that these are the only lakes in Great Britain that are worth a visit because it is not the case. Other fascinating lakes in the country are Loch Awe, the Serpentine, Ullswater, Black Park Lake and Loch Ness.
